Dr. Cosmina Popa, a Romanian native, is a double Board Certified Physician in Family and Geriatric Medicine with more than 12 years of clinical experience.
She had the opportunity to move to the United States after graduating from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy IULIU HATIEGANU in Cluj-Napoca, Romania at 25-years of age.
She successfully passed the United States Medical Licensing exams and completed a Family Medicine residency and Geriatric fellowship at Sacred Heart Hospital – a Temple Medical School affiliated hospital in Allentown, Pennsylvania in 2012.
Furthermore, Dr. Popa enriched her clinical experience working for Providence Medical System, in Seaside Oregon as a Primary Care doctor. She also worked as the Geriatric consultant for the local nursing homes and assisted living facilities in the area.
In 2015, Dr. Popa switched gears, and joined the Providence Hospitalist team caring for the acutely ill and vulnerable population requiring hospitalization. She worked in a physician-underserved rural area, where tenacious clinical skills were required, including management of the intensive care unit. She played an essential role in the development of the Transitional Care Unit in the hospital, facilitating the patient’s transition to rehabilitation. Dr. Popa was The Chair of the Hospital Quality Committee and the Sepsis Champion Leader for the hospital.
Due to family circumstances, Dr. Popa relocated to Naples Southwest Florida in 2018, where she currently resides with her husband. Dr. Popa joined one of the top hospitalist team’s in town, Premier Inpatient Hospitalists. She is affiliated with Physicians Regional Medical Center and Naples Community Hospital where she practices.
Her passion in medicine has always been helping the elderly vulnerable population, and she is striving to improve their quality-of-life by offering comprehensive geriatric assessments. One of her interests is dementia, a devastating disease without a cure. With this expertise, she is able to greatly impact the lives of patients as well as their families, by coordinating complex care with specialists.
Dr. Popa enjoys running and yoga regularly, skiing in the winter, explores her artistic side by taking art classes. She loves all what SW Florida lifestyle has to offer.
Currently, Dr. Cosmina Popa is accepting new patients, focusing mostly on high risk geriatric patients.
